Preparing For "The Getaway"

Let's see...

1. A 3-5 page paper on a marine species for Marine Bio (with powerpoint presentation)(and I can't find shit on this species. I think I'm going to change species).
2. 2 Communication research papers (5 Pages long).
3. 4 Chapters of European History to finish reading and study sheets (Chapter are about 35 pages a piece).
5. Reviewing 9 Chapters of Communication For The Final
6. Close to relearning everything in Marine Bio for the final (which is my first final)
7. A History Final Study Sheet to fill out.
8. Pages and PAGES of Anthropology to read for the final (and an assignment to finish)
9. AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT..... getting things squared away for transfering to my 4 year university (I attend a Private 2 year right now). So that means I have to go through this bullshit again!!! Apps, getting my recommendations straight, transcrips, essays, personal statements, all that shit.

No T.V, no video games, no beat making, no bullshittin'.

Today's Grind Song:

It's gonna be a LONG 2 weeks, pray for me ya'll.

"Comin' From The Southside"

Common VS. Kanye (Freestyle Battle) (1996)

I found this browsing on 'Ye blog 2nite.

Now... Kanye got a couple shots in... but yo... Com served him like a two piece with a side of cole slaw and a biscuit, LMAO!!! Com was taking the last word of 'Ye's rhymes and just flipped on him. And is it just me, or is 'Ye's style sounds like a member of the Wu-Tang Clan on this tape?

But my have times changed...

No...No...NO!!! Vol. 4

Now I'm for artists branching into other genres, but this shit is comedy. This is when Puff was going to put out an all Dance style album out about 4 years ago. Thing is you can feel the influence that Dance had on Puff's last album, the underated (imo) "Press Play." Look no further than "Diddy Rock," which was one of my favorite tracks on that album.

"You're dreams have now been fullfilled. Let's get up and get ill." LMAO!!!! Whole dance record with Puff Adlibs... no comment.

Rest In Peace Dr. West

(From AllHipHop.Com)

Dr. Donda West, Kanye West’s mother, suddenly died last night, individuals close to the rapper confirmed. The cause of death was not released immediately, but she was reportedly in the Los Angeles area when she died. She was 58 years old.

Kanye West chronicled his mother in “Hey Mama,” a song from his album Late Registration.

In the song, Kanye raps, “(Hey Mama), I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I'm so proud of you / Let me tell you what I'm about to do, (Hey Mama) / I know I act a fool but, I promise you I'm goin back to school /I appreciate what you allowed for me
I just want you to be proud of me (Hey Mama).”

West eventually performed the song in front of his mother and Oprah Winfrey on the TV host’s highly rated show. Although she was renown as Kanye West’s mother, Donda West had achieved much on her own. She served as the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University, but retired to act as Kanye's manager. She was an English professor for 31 years. Earlier this year, she released a book called Raising Kanye, which chronicled her journey of raising her son. In an interview with AllHipHop, Dr. West said she learned from her son and vice versa.

"Looking at Kanye has made me a more courageous individual, and I already saw myself as being courageous. I believe that Kanye has broken through and gone to levels and done things that I haven’t been able to reach yet," she told AllHipHop.com. "I have 28 years to his senior so I have a lot of experience. I’ve learned to speak my mind regardless of the consequences. I’ve learned a lot having raised Kanye and being his mother."

The word of Dr. West's death has traveled fast through word of mouth, in particular her hometown of Chicago. “'The city of Chicago is hurting for Kanye West and his family. We know how much he loved and valued his mother and we just ask other cities to join us in prayer for Kanye,” said Kendra G, a Morning Show co-host at Power 92 in Chicago

I was speechless when I read this; knowing how influential she was to Kanye's life and his career. My mother and I have the same type of close relationship, so putting myself in his shoes, I'm feeling for him. My heart, prayers, and condolences go out to 'Ye, his family and all his friends.

Imagination

Imagination driftin, your image is given.
Hoping the thought of me in your mind is livin’.
I’ve tried so long to shake the web of your essence.
But now all I want is you in my presents.
Reliving the time I had you in my fingertips.
Wanting so bad to taste the flavor of your lips.
I happened so fast, in feels non-existent,
Just a figment of my imagination or so fast I missed it.

You see that time period was so influential.
Life changing moments that became monumental.
The Flow, a reality. My people unified.
Discovered Fantastic, the music blew my mind.
Through the filtered basslines, crisp snares, and harmonize.
I had this brown sugar beauty before my eyes.
Funkified like Parliament, Chocolate City was in me.
Did not know how much that trip would give me.

Especially in how it started, bad stomach aches from Mce-dees
Being bugged by Homeland Security.
Which resulted in me losing my 20/20.
My project shipped to Amsterdam, later on we thought it was real funny.
I cannot explain that instant connection.
Like I’ve known you forever, only our path redirected.
And our conversations span from politics to H.E.R.
As I affectingly call her, and how she’s matured.

I know her and she knows me.
My fears, my dreams, my love for the M.I.C.
See, she’s a writer too, so she could identity.
A*Life*inspired, so we share the same drive.
She’s fly, like MJ in his prime.
From the free throw line, or like Rakim when he rhymed.
‘Cause like The R., she in the game raised the standards.
It seemed right, so my heart I decided to hand her.

But sometimes what we want cannot be.
Sometime fantasy cannot be reality.
But this doesn’t mean all dreams are fiction.
Sometimes the timing is off from our own personal missions.
And I’m glad you’re finding yours, because I’m finding mine.
Finding forever is possible as long as you’re trying.
If you’re just living to exist, then you’re dying.
But if you living to live, you’re truly flying

But sometimes I wish there was more to this.
That daily I could taste the flavor of your lips.
I may sound reminiscent, or just plain insane.
I just wonder sometimes do you feel the same?
Do you think about that one moment?
Do you hold it or let it go like you don’t know it?
I really want the answer, but maybe best I don’t get it.
Imagination driftin’, it’s hard to forget it.

It's About Time!!!!

Been waiting for this video for almost a year!!! That's too long to wait for a video!!! But either way, glad to finally see it come to light. This is one of my favorite tracks off "Hip-Hop Is Dead." East Coast To West Coast, The Good Doctor on the beat, and Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry on the hook. It don't get no better!!!

Jay-Z On Charlie Rose!??!?!

Jay: What are doing with all these tracks?
Diddy: Man I just play it in my house and run around with my socks on!

LMAO!!!!

And On That Note... I'm Out.

Come On Baby

Been waiting on this one since the summer. I remember when Just posted just a 30 second clip of this track a couple of days before he leaked the whole song. I played that clip AT LEAST 60-70 times straight. This has been the track (because of sample clearances), that has been holding up Saigon's long waited debut, "The Greatest Story Told." Well, it was, without question, worth the fight, because this track is CRAZY!!! I can't wait to see how this album turns out.

And on that note... I'm Out.

DROPPING DECEMBER 11th!!!

Quote Of The Day: Chris Rock To Rolling Stone On The State Of Hip-Hop
Chris Rock: Music kind of sucks. Nobody's into being a musician.
Everybody's getting their mogul on. You've been so infiltrated by this corporate mentality that all the time you'd spend getting great songs together, you're busy doing nine other things that have nothing to do with art. You know how shitty Stevie Wonder's songs would have been if he had to run a fuckin' clothing company and a cologne line?

RollingStone: Plenty of rappers say, "I'm not a rapper, I'm a businessman."

Chris Rock: That's why rap sucks, for the most part. Not all rap, but as an art form it's just not at its best moment. Sammy the Bull would have made a shitty album. And I don't really have a desire to hear Warren Buffett's album - or the new CD by Paul Allen. That's what everybody's aspiring to be.We live in a weird time.

No one knows who's smart - we just know who makes money. "Hey, somebody invented Viagra! We don't know their name, but we know Pfizer, because they make the money." That guy made a pill that keeps your dick hard, and nobody knows who the fuck he is. The pharmaceutical companies are like fuckin' record companies. There's literally the Bo Diddley of medicine walking around, not getting his royalties. He signed all his fucking pill publishing away.

LMAO!!! Another classic "food for thought" Chris Rock quote to add to the book.

The Return Of Hova AND... The Return Of The Record Store

(From Hip-HopDX.Com)
In case you didn’t know Jay-Z’s new album, American Gangster, hit shelves today. And Jay-Z wants it to do just that. “Hit the shelves”. According to Jay-Z, he feels that American Gangster should be consumed as a whole; and has decided to pull the new album off Apple’s popular iTunes music store. “As movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles,” Jay said via a statement.

I like I-Tunes from a DJ standpoint because I have access to edited verisons. But honesty, if I had the power the Jay has as an artist (indie artist like me need online stores), I would do the same thing. I love the feeling of going to the store, running home, ripping off the packaging (and it's a bitch to do sometimes. I swear they straight jacket CDs), throwin' on the record, and listening to it while reading the liner notes. And as an artist, I want to give my listener the whole experience; album art and all. So shouts out Jay for this one.

"My Man..." American Gangster In Stores Now!

Everything Man

Peep what I found. Apparently there was a low-budget video filmed for one of my favorite tracks off Kweli's Eardrum, "Everything Man." Produced by "The Beat Konducta," Madlib. And it's filmed where?!?!?!? Do you even have to ask? West Coast stand up!!!!

Your Alpha and your Omega
Your beginning and your end
Your father, your brother, your lover, your friend
The blood in your vain that gets spilt and runs in the drain
That?s right my flow the one in the same
The joy and the pain
My name
The burner that destroy the toy in the train
All city, all night, I?m enjoying the fame
I?m a hustla, I?m a gangsta, and a rebel
With the rank of a general in the battle between God and the devil
I lay claim to your spirit, your religion, your belief system
I do your hit and your catching and your relief pitching
Just keep official in every position
The man in your dreams and your nightmares, the man in your visions too
It?s quite clear like light beer
Yea I?m standing right here
I get you hot but stay cooler than the night air
I try to fit it in the same rhyme but realize I can?t be everything to everyone at the same time...

One of the best albums of the year, cop it ascap!!!

"As You'll Recall, You Know I Love To Show Off..."

This is the single cover for "Flashing Lights," the next single of Ye's Graduation. This has to be my favorite track off the album. I couldn't be happier that he's going to make this a single. I'm glad the label saw the unbelievable potential this joint has in being a huge single. To just think this almost did not make the album. It was made the week before the album was to be turned it.

When the video is out, it will be on here, trust.
