Late Night Globetrottin'

Another dope live performance by Lupe, (or Lupy as Jay Leno called him, lol!! Shm). This shit sounded fresh live. One of my favorite tracks of "The Cool." The video should be coming soon.

"I'm The King 'Till I Retire."(c) DMC

I remember the first time I heard "'Till I Retire." It was sometime in October and DJ Revolution through it on in the mix. I stopped everything I was doing... lol!!! This song knocks beyond comprehension. I love the feel of the video. Feels like a throwback to the early 90s. It's also great to see Funk Doc and The PR hookin' back up. Their chemistry has been dope together (See "Gimmme One" off Red's last LP, "Red Gone Wild").

Like everyone else, I heard the o.g version back on the net a couple months ago. This new version SMASHES on other one. DJ Khalil really filpped this track proper.

P.S- This is only a 1:10 clip.

According to Nas, Nigger will be droppin' sometime late April. This year is going to be a hell of year for Hip-Hop L.Ps.

"Jay Dee Flip Another Beat For Me" (c) Q-Tip

Part 1
Part 2

I meant to posted these awhile back, but this is incredble. If you don't understand why people call Dilla "The King Of Beats," just listen to these two videos. They have the orginal clip, than Dilla's flip. The way he re-constructed Bobby Caldwell's voices the hook for Com's "The Light...." and how he made that Singers Unlimited say "players," when they were really saying "Clare," (Ric Flair Face x2). Absolutely ridiculous and "ludicrous" (c) Iron Mike.

The Believer: Coming This November

(From MTV.COM)

During his acceptance speech at the Grammys, Kanye West joked that he and frequent collaborator Common shouldn't drop albums in the same year, because they're always competing against each other for awards. Well, it looks like Com agrees, and he's already a step ahead of his good friend. Common is eyeing the fourth quarter of '08 to release his next potential classic.

"I'm looking around November," he told MTV News of the release date of his follow-up to last year's Finding Forever. "I'm working on a new album called The Believer. I'm just getting in the mode. I been touring a lot and been working on verses here and there. Now, I'm starting to get focused on the album, letting it take its shape. And at the same time [I'll] be working on films, God willing."

Com on "The Standard" LP with Q-Tip:
"Q-Tip and I been planning the Standard album," he said, referring to the duo the pair have formed. "We been conceptualizing, but we just gotta continue to work on it. We will. I look at it like two jazz musicians getting together, the way Charlie Parker and cats would get together and do work. I feel a lot more free with my music now that I'm doing films and stuff, because I don't put as much pressure on the music. It ain't my only source of income and way to make a living."

Hostile Gospel

New video from Kweli off "Eardrum" entitled "Hostile Gospel Pt. 1 (Deliver Us)." Produced by Just Blaze, for me, this was one of the stand outs on album. Dope concept and setting (filmed in Nigeria).

Illmatic EPK

It's crazy watching this and seeing how young everyone was: Nas, Preemo, Tip, PR, Large Professor. Many try to format their albums (especially their debut albums) after this one. The perfect example of a cover to cover banger, no filter.

Take It Back

After being released almost 2 months ago, the latest Wu-Tang album FINALLY gets a video. Confession, I have not really heard anything from the new record, and everytime I had the album in my hand to buy it, I got something else instead. "8 Diagrams" has be SERVERLY by critics and fans from what I have seen. Not helping the cause is also the well documented internal beefs within the clan for the past couple months.

Either way you look at it, that still is no excuse for me not checking out this album. From the sounds of this track, I may have been sleepin' on the album. This Shit is FYFAAAAAAAAAA (c) M.O.P. Video is not bad either. Kinda wished The Clan could have formed "Voltron style" again and make a classic video, but I'll take for what it is. I think I'm going to have to cop this next I'm out record shopping.

8 Diagrams in stores now.

The Voodoo Behind "Voodoo"

This was a promo EPK video for D'Angelo's Voodoo. From what I can tell, this was filmed while they were shoots the album booklet shots (take a look if you have the actual album). Peep the cameos... Q-Tip, Rick Rubin, Chris Rock, even Eric Clapton, "and niggas faces are scrunched up"- Pharrell.

Flashing Lights Vol. 1 (Kill 'Ye)

This is the video that EVERY one has been waiting for. And I'm not even gonna lie, when I first saw this, my exact words were (in my best Bernie Mac voice): WHAT IN THE FUCK WAS THAT, KANYE!?!??!?! But two things change my mind. For one, it has been reported that he filmed 3 videos for this, just like with "Jesus Walks," (which like "Flashing Lights," imho, was the biggest record of its respective album), and two, being an into fliming myself I understand where 'Ye was going with this.

The video still told the story of the song, but you REALLY have to pay attention to catch all the little signs. It made me understand the song a little bit more. Honestly, I thought the song was about his relationship going sour because of him being in the public eye. But I never picked up the lyrics referring to him also being unfaithful to his woman, which is the reason for the ending. I know this was take off a scene in "Goodfellas," but it also reminds me of the scene in the first "Kill Bill" were The Bride had Bill assistant, Sophie, in the trunk. I can't believe that MTV and BET actually played this during the daytime. But only an artist of Kanye's stature could pull that off.

But still, while this is very creative, this song is BEGGING for a huge video. So I can not wait for the next two videos. Oh, as a sidenote, fellas... did ya'll she the shorty in this video!?!??!?!!!??! (Ice Cube/Chris Tucker Voice): DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMNNN!!!!! She is a Playboy model by the name of Rita G. If there anything Kanye has always had an eye for, it's bangin females in his videos. Go down the line, I can't think of one video where 'Ye has not had a Quarter (yes, a quarter, not a dimepiece). Well, some may differ with "Touch The Sky," but that's a different story.

One mo' thang... Nokia Theatre, April 21...

My Birthday Gift... (hopefully, Birthday's on the 8th). I also want to get tickets to one of those Chris Rock shows @ The Gibson, which I believe is at the same time. I gotta see my favorite stand up comedian on tour.

Feel This Way

Really Through, I am not one to care about this stupid holiday, but I do care about this song. This is one of my favorite joints of Cons' "Don't Quit Your Day Job." It was dope to hear John Legend spit a little sumthin' with Cons on third verse, "tug-a-war" style." If you don't have it, cop Cons' album asap (you should have it by now).

And on that note... I'm out.

Dr. Jones

While the idea of old action stars trying to resurrect their most known franchises is usually not a good idea, this one has me excited. Over 2 decades after "Raiders Of The Lost Ark," Indiana Jones is back to put it down one mo 'gain. I was only 1 when the last movie dropped ("Indy And The Last Crusade"), so I'm looking forward in see this in the theatres.

Com Sense In 2008

Common put the people up on his plans for '08. Including a his roles in movies AND... a new album entitled "The Believer." Kanye, The Neptunes, AND Just Blaze, that's a nasty combo. That remix for The Light is going to be intresting, can't wait to hear it.

Beetlejuice scarf, LFMAO!!!! B Kyle is a fool.

I've always loved this picture. I think there's a poster for it.

Soul Claps & Salutes To Dilla Vol.1

I must have told this story a million times. And if you know me personally, you most likely know it by heart because I have told it too many times, lol! Pretty much, in a couple of sentences, this is how it went down...
1) Boy wins first prize and travels to D.C.
2) In D.C, boy gives a presentation that offically introduces his dream to the world's main stage.
3)Boy is amazed by this reality and representation of Black pride and unity among his fellow competitors. Something that was almost foreign where he was from.
4) Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl... hard (But that's a WHOLE 'nother story).
5) Boy leaves D.C a changed man for many various reasons.

In between this story, the boy decide to go record shopping while waiting for the D.C Metro to arrive. Boy found a Sam Goody in the lobby and decided to spend some doe. Boy was on his way to pay for another CD (it was Rhymefest's as a matter of fact), and had a thought about a hard to find CD for him. That's when he walked in to the "S" section and found an album he had been looking for, Slum Village's "Fantastic Vol. 2." Boy paid for the CD, and retreats to his hotel room to vibe to his new purchase. What he would hear would change him forever.

Deep Kicks, Crisp Snares, erotic, but smooth samples and keyboards (Rhodes to be exact), and basslines that felt like that were dancing within his headphones. It was funky, it was smooth, it was soulful, it was a sound that the boy could identify with. For although he was from the West Coast and loved the G-Funk sound, it did not fit his personality completely. In the mist of finally starting to composing beats on his own, the boy had found his favorite producer to study and learn from.

My story with J. Dilla is to a degree, identical to others, "Get the fuck outta here!!! Dilla did that? I have been listening to him for years, I didn't know he produced (fill in a Dilla joint from one of your favorite aritst here)." Being a fan of Com, Tribe, The Roots, Busta, S.V, De La, Badu, Kweli, Mos, Pharcyde, and countless others, who knew that one producer was the life line. The true torch barrier of "The Native Tongues" from '95 until his death. And his impacted the way I now listen, dissect, and compose music.

Furthermore, was his love for this the music. His love for the culture. Shit, many argue his greatest work was made while laying on his death bed (Dounts). A true warrior with beats, a true warrior on the mic, and a true warrior for life. Jay Dee was that.

Sometimes I do kick myself in the ass for not realizing earlier of Dilla greatness, but I'm it came late, than ever at all. Many can where the T-Shirts, many can try to sound hip in coversations, but I can honestly state that J Dilla Changed My Life. And ironicly, that change came within one of the most imporant trips and weeks of my life.

From the bottom of my heart, Soul Claps, Salutes, Much Love, and Thank You.

Now, for those who are not Cali natives, this is the Hollywood Bowl...

My grandmother would take my sister, my cousins and myself to shows at the Bowl. This shows were musicals, orchestra, jazz, etc. While there have been a Rock, R&B, and Soul shows their before, I can remember ANY Hip-Hop artist to ever perform at the Hollywood Bowl. I have to check into this.

Either way I could have never imagined Jay to play Hollywood Bowl!!! Plus Mary on the bill, that show is going to be live. We know they are going to do "Can't Knock The Hustle," but them doing "Song Cry" again? Damn. But wait, what about Mary on the hook to "Heart Of The City?" (Ric Flair Face). Wow.

Did I Say 5th In The West?

Now I'm saying Western Conference finals.

Sidenote- Stephen A. is a fool, LOL!!! Cool dude, I met him @ USC back 2005 during the yearly rivalry game with UCLA.

Oh, and it looks like our rivalry with Phoenix just got a little more intresting...

My favorite show to watch during the season, Inside The NBA, give their two cents on the trade...

Here we go again... David Stern has to be seeing dollar signs.

Air Jordan Vs. The Human Highlight Reel

Since All-Star Weekend is right around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to post a blog on two renovators of the dunk contest. Any ball player or fan of the game will tell you, when it comes to dunk contest highlights and duel, NO ONE could top Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan. Many say it was their duel in '88 that was the peak of rivary. They brough out the best in each other and change the way roundball mid-air acrobatics was perceived.

Exercise Your Right

You may have heard stories of your vote not counting, however, most president elections are decided by swing voters. Swing voters is voters who are still deciding how there are going to vote for. If you have ever found yourself complaining about how things are, stop complaning about it, and than make a move to change it. This is a move.

Don't wait, don't make a excuse... MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!!! GET TO THE POLLS AND VOTE!!!!

Ain't I

MTV Unplugged (October 2001)

This reportedly was recorded for Timbo's Shock Value, but was unfinished when it was time turn in the album. BUT, as much I can't stand Clue HORRENDOUS yelling (and I blame him for starting the "DJ yelling during the track with the reverb on high" trend), he says something actually useful this time. "New Jay-Z, Off That Blueprint 3?" Wait... BLUEPRINT 3!?!??!?!?!?!?!?.

Here we go, let the rumors fly and the countdown begin, I bet now that album is gonna come outta no where. What makes this track possibly new is it ironicly somewhats address some of the latest drama that has occured at Roc-A-Fella Records.

And may add that (beside that "Give It 2 Me Remix") this is the first Timbo/Hov calabo since "Dirt Off Your Shouders." This track shows the chemstry has not decrease, but better yet, gotten better. Jay on his lyrical A game and Timbo providing a beat with "That Knock;" or as Jay said it in "Fade To Black," "that bounce." That bridge around 2:50.... WOOOOOOOOO (Makes Ric Flair face), that shit is fire.

Hot 97 Summer Jam (July 2001). This the infamous concert where Jay first peformed a certain record called "The Takeover" and jumped off one the biggest battles in Hip-Hop history.
