Love Thirst

FINALLY the video for the first single of the highly anticipated and HIGHLY delayed album from 9th Wonder and imho, the best female MC in the game today, Jean Grae. Funny enough, I have had this joint for about 6 months now, and it finally hit me. You know how songs will do that sometimes. This record is seductive has hell. Also guest appearance by Robert De Niro... wait.... Robert De Niro!!!??!? You, will just have to watch the video to see...

Jeanius finally drops in stores July 8th. Here's the tracklisting...
1. Intro
2. 2-32s
3. Don’t Rush Me
4. My Story
5. The Time Is Now
6. Billy Killer
7. Think About It
8. #8
9. American Pimp
10. This World
11. Love Thirst
12. Desperada
13. Smashmouth

Also, be aware that spoof covers you have been seeing on the net, will ONLY BE FOR A LIMITED RELEASE. This is because the Warner doesn't want to run into any artwork infringement issues on the covers. So to get the covers, get the album as soon as the album drops.

And on that note... I'm out.

No lie...

When I first this song, this is how I EXACTLY how I pictured the video. Lo-Lo: check. Boomin System: check: Keyshia in the driver seat while Game is spitin into the camera: check. Doing all this while riding down Crenshaw: Check. Even some appearences from some West Coast legends. Cali Iz Active...

The Gloved One Vs. The Purple One

I remember seeing this footage about 2 years ago from my stepfather Greg. Who may I add, is the biggest Prince fan I personally know. I was thinking about this the other days and decided to post on it. But I did not have the complete back story.

So I decided to ask the residential music heads at Okayplayer for info. Well, after damn near causing a digital riot between MJ and Prince fans, I have the story. Check it...

This was a James Brown concert that took place in L.A in 1983, with Blues legend B.B King as the opening act. This concert was later broadcast on a earlier version of cable/subscription t.v called "ON TV" (I remember my moms telling me about ON TV).

But what is important to note is the version you are watching now is NOT the actual broadcast version. Prince did not agree to have his part shown, therefore the "ON TV" edit only showed Mike getting on stage, doing his thing, and then the show cutting to the next song. Also, note this is Prince pre-Purple Rain. As a matter of fact, this concert happened just a couple weeks after Purple Rain rapped shooting.

So with all this said, many o.g music fanatics have debating this question for a minute, who won this alleged battle? Well, put it to ya'll this way. If you have seen footage of these two perform before, you would see they added their own signatures to the stage. But if you based it off just the crowd's reaction... Mike could claim this one.

However, Prince part (regardless of how bizarre it was), had some funny ass moments (the lightpole at the end? LMAO!!!)Many see this as the "passing of the torch." And rightfully so, it was. "This shit right here" (c) Katt Williams, was legendary. But while, as I just found out today, Mike is working on a new album with Will I Am and prepping his comeback, in the long run, to quote Chris Rock... "Prince Won."

And on that note... I'm out.

Dre On Suge

It's been not secret there is NO love lost between Dr. Dre and Suge Knight. And from what I have learned about the connection in the past few years, it has MORE to do than just Suge owning the masters to The Chronic and all of his Death Row work. So of course, with the news of Suge catching a beatdown in a Hollywood club last week, many would like to know... "What do you thing about it Dre?"

And on that note... I'm out.

Def Jam To Nas: "N*&!@? Please!!!"

Why does this not suprise me? I was hearing some whispers earlier this week on the net about this happening.

(From Hiphopdx.com)
Nas' upcoming album came with a title that has drawn more than enough attention than the fact it was his next album. Nigger was the name of the prolific lyricist's ninth studio album - the key word here is "was." According to EW.com, a Def Jam representative has confirmed that Nas will no longer be naming his upcoming project Nigger. Instead, Nasir Jones will opt for a less controversial title: Nas.

It looked as if Nas and Def Jam were comfortable with the eyebrow-raising album title. Island Def Jam Music Chair, L.A. Reid, even went so far as to say "Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him," in an interview last year.
But as the release draws near, Nas spoke to MTV about the increasing pressure to change the title.

"Everybody is trying to stop the title," Nas stated. "Record stores are gonna have a problem in this day and time selling a record with that title. Who knows what's gonna turn out and be on that title? Who knows what that title will be?"
Apparently, the phrase "pressure busts pipes" has finally reared its head and the controversial title has finally been changed. Look for Nas' now self titled album in stores July 1st.

Press Release By Nas (From Allhiphop.com)
"It's important to me that this album gets to the fans. It's been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It's that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it."

A Class Of His Own....

Ya'll have to read this to believe it....

From Yahoo.Com:
GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Jeff Greenwood is in a class by himself. He was the only student to graduate from Opheim High School this year, but the small event Friday drew a big name. Gov. Brian Schweitzer gave the commencement address.

Greenwood, who plans to attend Dickinson State University in North Dakota, said the high school is the "hub of activity" for rural Opheim, a town about 10 miles south of the Canadian border. "The student-to-teacher ratio is pretty good," said Greenwood, who is the student body president and, of course, the senior class president.

Greenwood had a few classmates before high school, but his last remaining classmate moved to Utah during freshman year. He took some classes alone his senior year while sharing others with juniors at the school. "You get to know everybody and you're friends with everybody," Greenwood said. "At the same time, you can't get away with anything."

Principal LeRoy Nelson, who has also been school superintendent, said he thought this was the first time the school graduated just one student. Six students graduated last year and 12 are on track to graduate in 2009. Nelson said he thinks single-member classes will become more common as enrollment drops at rural schools. (Ed. Note- That is not a good look, at all!!). Last year, one other Montana school had one graduate. Schweitzer spoke there as well.

For my readers who have experienced the joy of a commencement ceremony, you know this shit sucks big time. I don't know how this can be possible. It's hilarious, but sad at the same time for various reasons.

Spazz If You Want 2....

Spaz (2oo8) - N.E.R.D
Second N.E.R.D post of the day... I had to dawn the Ric Flair face when I heard this shit first time about 5 minutes ago while studying. Okay I'm fully convinced now, this album is going to be something SERIOUS!!!! The bridge on this song is nasty!!!

And Justus For All

This mixtape with Mick Boggie was one of my favorites from last year. And quite frankly, that says a lot because I don't care for mixtapes that much nowadays. They just because stale to me.

I share Phonte's same sentiments as he explains in the one of the interludes on "And For Justus For All," why am I going to listen to you rap over the same beat that everyone knows and everyone other rappers is trying to spit over? I rather put on the original version. But some MCs manage to make the beat their own and another enjoyable song. That was case with this tape.

It's going to be dope to hear some the original produced joints (9 specifically) mastered as they are re-releasing "And Justus For All" as a complete LP. Plus with 5 new records (7 for the i-tunes version) including a reunion track with 9th entited "Black Light Special." I would throw up a tracklisting, but there are so many floating around, I don't know which one is real. I'll keep ya'll posted.

And Justus For All drops June 10!

Quote Of The Day 5/18/2008

From Blender Magazine:

Blender: What was your high school nickname?"

Nas On "Nigger"

After months of speculation, Nas finally opens up about his highly anticipated and HIGHLY controversial ninth LP, Nigger, in this interview with Onsmash.com.

Sidenote- The part when he was talking about different types on niggas, all of you in the Black community know that is shit true. I found myself cracking a smile and "nodding my head in reverence." (c) Mos Def.

Also, Doom & Nas?!?!?!? Paul are you watching this? This album is going to be very interesting. I just hope Nas delivers. With an album title like that, making a half ass album is not an option.

Leave It All Behind

From Nicolay's Myspace...
"Dear friends,

Here's a little update straight from the studio. Let me cut right to the chase... the new FOREIGN EXCHANGE record is almost finished! We are currently working on one of the last tracks, which is the title track, 'Leave It All Behind', already one of my personal favourites. Some other song titles that I can confirm at this point are 'Sweeter Than You' and 'House Of Cards'.

We first started working on this record back in 2006, and it feels good knowing that the finish line is finally in sight. It's been quite a journey! We are both very proud of the record and can't wait for you to hear it. And while you'll have to wait a little while longer, you now know that it is indeed on the way. Keep an eye on this page for more information coming soon."

Tay on the project (from Hiphopdx.com)
“I been working on this album on and off for a year and some change, in between finishing up Getback and my 80's project with Zo that drops real soon. I can't tell people what to expect."

“What I can tell them NOT to expect is ‘Connected Part 2.’ This is a totally different record with a different energy, but it’s still me and Nic doing what we do. I feel like this is the kind of record I've wanted to make all my life; I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

If you don't have the debut, Connected, HIGHLY... HIGHLY, recommend you pick that up A.S.A.P. And while you're at it, speaking of Nicolay, get his latest LP with Houston MC Kay. The joint is called Time:Line. It is one of the most slepted on records of the year.

The Grand Return

Been gone for a minute and not posting as much as should, but I have good reasons why. This has been one...

Can't say anything yet, but A LOT of new music and projects coming within the next couple of weeks. Also, I'm launching H.F.P. T.V in a couple of weeks on Youtube. I'm just filming now and getting everything in order. Speaking of filming....

The documentary "Inside Dorm 25" is coming REAL soon. And if you don't know what I'm talkin about, it's cool. I'll fill ya'll in on the details soon.

Lastly, my primary objective at this time, graduating and getting the hell outta Marymount. My concentration has been on various things over this past year, and this the first time I have ONLY been just a student, so a nice change of pace at this time. I said in a previous entry, I was ready for whateva, ready for the ride, and maaannnnn has it been... the good, the bad, the ugly, and the disgusting, fo real, fo real. But I feel I have outgrown my environment, and it's about that time, ya know?

Sidenote, If you're ever in L.A, check out The Walt Disney Concert Hall...

Went there for the first time last night. Beautiful building with some dope classical music (although that last piece had me fighting to stay awake, lol!!).

Overseas Bonus Tracks from "Rising Down." And if you still don't have that LP, you stallin, and you sleepin!!!

Driving Down The Block

The first video of Kidz In The Hall's sophomore LP, The In Crowd. Apparently, this joint debuted on the TRL (yes, as in MTV's Total Request Live) as the number 6 video on the countdown. Kidz In The Hall... on TRL.... Duck Down Records on TRL?!?!??! I guess anything is possible.

The In Crowd is available on I-Tunes now and will be in stores this Tuesday.

P.S- If you do not have their debut School Was My Hustle, HIGHLY recommend that you cop that.

Homeboy On Flims: Iron Man

It is May, which means the beginning of the summer movie season. First up, is the adaption of the Marvel Comic "Iron Man" starting Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges. Being a Marvel Comics fan (growing up, instead of getting fairy tail stories for bedtime, I was introduced to the likes of Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk), I had high expectations for this.

In short, I can saw with honestly that not only does this movie live up to the hype, but it is the BEST of the Marvel film adaptions. Yep, it's better than the Spider-Mans, better than The X-Mens, better than The Fantastic 4s; give director Jon Favreau and his team a standing ovation. Oh, one other thing, stay after the credits. As I learned on the net, there is a "surprise" at the end. Just because of this, I may go see it again. According to the web, this the first of a trilogy. The next movie will be released in 2010. In a summer where there are SO MANY dope movies droppin', this is the right way to get things started.

And on that note... I'm out.

"I'm Paying Homage...

'cause you paid the way for me."

This is the West Coast summer anthem. Why? Because when I first heard this, I just pictured myself rollin' through the city with my top down, windows down, and this shit making my rearview window vibrate. Ahhh... ain't nuthin like home.

Immortal Techique Wants Your Stories

(From HipHopdx.com)
The outbreak of criticism in response to the acquittal of several New York City police officers in the shooting death of 23-year-old Sean Bell has prompted rapper/activist Immortal Technique to compile a list of stories showing the pervasiveness of police brutality across the United States.

“Police State Chronicles” will be a collection of experiences of real people from different ethnicities and socio-economic statuses—including Technique himself—across the country detailing police misconduct.
After the stories are compiling, Technique intends to distribute “Police State Chronicles” to the media, Congress, the Department of Justice and even the United Nations.

“The violation of people’s fundamental human rights, is not just a race issue, or an inner city issue, this is a national issue,” Technique said via statement. “The state is taking people's most precious belongings, their lives, without any sort of due process. Historically, the police in this country have been kept separate from the military so as to protect people’s civil rights, but as this police state becomes more militarized and its abuses grow, it is a harbinger of the fragmentation of our democracy.”

Technique also made an appeal to all readers and fans that have had an experience with police brutality to contribute. “We would genuinely appreciate people's participation in sharing their stories,” he said. “Please do not think your story is too small or too insignificant to share.”

People interested should include their name, location and permission for Immortal Technique to use the name/story in the packet. E-mail stories to policestatechronicles@yahoo.com.

If you have not checked for this man's music, I HIGHLY recommend you do so. This dude is the next evolution of how Hip-Hop can be political. Basically think what would come next after Public Enemy and Dead Prez. And if you have one... send him your stories!!!! You can check the first one at his myspace...
